Blood gluose testing. Finger of a diabetic next to a glucometer machine used to measure the level of glucose in the blood. The patient's finger is pricked to extract a drop of blood. The blood is placed on a chemically-coated strip and inserted into the glucometer, which gives a glucose reading. Diabetes mellitus is normally caused by insufficient insulin production by the pancreas. Treatment includes controlling dietary sugar intake and insulin injections.
