Pinned arthritic spine. Coloured profile computed tomography (CT) scan of the spine of a 57 year old. Three of the vertebrae (blue blocks) have been pinned to treat cervical osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease. Osteoarthritis damages the cartilage between the vertebrae, moving them closer together. This limits the flexibility and movement of the neck. Here the pins are separating the vertebrae.
