Insulin pen instruction. Healthcare worker showing a patient how to use a diabetic pen. This device is used by diabetics to inject insulin into the blood stream. Diabetes is a metabolic disorder where the body does not produce sufficient quantities of the hormone insulin, causing sugars (such as glucose) to accumulate in the blood and urine. Monitoring of blood glucose levels allows diabetics to control the disease through diet or medication such as insulin injections.
