A mosquito net hanging over a bed for use as a protective measure against mosquito bites. Physical barriers are becoming increasingly important in preventing malaria as the parasite becomes resistant to traditional anti-malarial drugs (chloroquinine). Malaria is caused by a parasitic protozoan carried in the saliva of Onopheles mosquitoes. Malaria causes a severe fever, & in some cases complications affecting the kidneys, brain, liver & blood, which can be fatal. Alternative measures against mosquitoes include wearing protective clothing, using insecticides, limiting breeding areas and even releasing sterile nmale mosquitoes.
