Tuberculosis treatment. Child preparing to take DOTS tuberculosis (TB) drugs. TB is an infection by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It usually infects the lungs and can cause severe scarring. If tuberculosis is not completely eradicated, then drug-resistant forms can develop. The recommended strategy is DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment, Short-course), where the taking of the drugs is supervised by medical personnel. Photographed in St Peter's TB Hospital, Ethiopia.
