Ulcer treatment. Nurse bandaging a female patient's leg to treat a skin ulcer. Ulcers are open wounds or lesions in the skin which become inflamed and fail to heal properly. One of the most common types of ulcer is the venous leg ulcer, caused by increased venous pressure. This leads to static blood in tissues which eventually become inflamed and die. Ulcers can also form from trauma wounds.
