Vitiligo treatment. Image 1 of 3. Surgeon injecting a local anaesthetic into skin on the face of a woman who has vitiligo. He will then transplant skin from elsewhere on her body to the affected area (pink), hoping to promote the growth of normal skin. This skin disorder, where the skin loses its natural pigmentation, is not well understood. It is not physically harmful, with the effects being mainly psychological and social, resulting from the patient's appearance. For this patient undergoing skin graft therapy, see images M729/051-053.
