Nail varnish removal. Woman removes red nail varnish from her fingernails using a cotton wool pad soaked in nail varnish remover. Nail varnish is a quick drying cosmetic lacquer applied to colour the nails and to make them shiny. The varnish is made by dissolving natural resins in a volatile solvent, therefore it needs solvent for removal. Nail varnish remover contains the solvent acetone to dissolve the varnish.
