Ayurvedic therapy. A man takes a steam bath as part of traditional Indian, or Ayurvedic therapy. The top of the bath slides open (as in this image) for access. When closed, a seal is formed with only the head protruding from the top of the bath. Steam baths are an ayruvedic purifying therapy, known as Pancakarma treatment. Ayurvedics believe that sweating in steam baths cleanses the body of impurities known as "dosas". Heat transforms the "dosas" into liquid form which are the sweated out in a steam bath or sauna. Photographed at the Podar Ayurvedic Hospital, Bombay, India.
