Phototherapy. Woman undergoing phototherapy in front of a light screen. Phototherapy is used to treat jet lag and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). SAD causes depression and withdrawal in winter months, as daylight time decreases. By exposing the patient to a strong light source for a few hours each day, the impression of longer daylight hours can be created. Phototherapy may also be used to treat some skin disorders, such as psoriasis, vitiligo or eczema.
