Woman with electro-acupuncture needles in her thigh, undergoing an alternative treatment for cellulite. Cellulite, the name given to the dimpled fat that may exist around the thighs & buttocks, has become a target of complimentary medicine and the modern cosmetics & "beauty" industry, who consider it to be resistant to dieting. Various techniques are available for its removal, including creams containing extracts of cellular organelles (liposomes) and the more radical liposuction, which involves the injection of lipase enzymes to break down fat followed by the removal of the liquid residue via a syringe.
