Herbal medicine. View of various plants used in herbal medicine. Also seen is Nicholas Culpeper's book 'Culpeper's Complete Herbal', at lower centre (published 1653). Among the various plants, at lower left are yellow flowering dandelions (Taraxacum officinale). An extract from the roots of these can be used as a laxative. Also seen (at far right) are stinging nettles (urtica dioca), the roots of these have many medicinal benefits including the elimination of small bladder stones. In some parts of the world, rheumatic pains are treated by beating the body with stinging nettles.
