Sandalwood. Wood from the white sandalwood tree (Santalum album). This evergreen, parasitic tree is found in southern Asia, Australia and the Pacific islands. The wood is used to prepare an oil. Sandalwood oil is used for a wide range of medicinal purposes, including use as an antiseptic (preventing infections), diuretic (increasing flow of urine), sedative, tonic, emollient (skin care) and expectorant (increasing coughing).
