Senna pill on top of a blister pack. Senna pills contain sennosides (anthraquinone glycosides), which are derived from senna leaves and pods (Senna sp.). These have a laxative effect and increase peristaltic movements of the colon. Sennosides are taken for the short term alleviation of constipation.
