Dried lavender (Lavandula sp.) flowers in a ladle. Lavender flowers are a popular source of fragrance. They can be dried and hung up to infuse a room or they can placed under pillows to aid restful sleep. The individual florets can be separated (as shown here) and used for pot pouri. The flowers can also be processed to produce an oil which is used in aromatherapy and in perfume. Lavender is also used as an antiseptic when applied to a wound, and as a tonic when taken as an infusion.
