Chiropody. Chiropodist clips the toenails of an elderly patient. The patient's foot is seen perched on a table while the chiropodist uses gloved hands and toenail clippers to cut the toenails. Chiropody is the examination and treatment of diseases and malfunctions of the feet. All ages may be treated, for problems which include ankle injuries, bunions and hammer toes, foot ulcers, toenail infections. Chiropodists are trained to use pharmaceutical drugs, dressings, and local anaesthetics. In some cases they may conduct surgery.
