Flossing teeth. Close-up of a man flossing his teeth. He has wrapped the floss (white thread) around his fingers and is running it through the gaps in his teeth in order to remove dental plaque or food particles. Floss should be used as an adjunct to toothbrushing in order to remove the daily build-up of plaque (a sticky, brown bacteria containing substance). Good oral hygiene reduces the incidence of tooth decay and prevents gum disease.
