Dental X-ray. Dentist examines an X-ray of a patient's teeth. The X-ray will show signs of dental disease or abnormal growth of teeth. X-rays are high-energy electromagnetic waves which can penetrate soft tissue, but which are absorbed in heavier materials like bone. X-rays which have passed through the foot can be detected by a photographic plate. The resulting radiograph is like a photographic 'negative' - the light areas represent an absence of X-rays on the film.
