Dental instruments in sterile packaging. The metal instruments are sterilised and then vacuum-packed to ensure they remain sterile until they are used. These are instruments used by a dentist to examine and clean a patient's teeth. Picks and scrapers of various shapes and sizes are used to probe the teeth to find areas of decay, and to clean the teeth of accumulated material such as tartar. Mirrors are used to help the dentist see all parts of the teeth. Sterile tools are required to prevent microbial contamination of the patient's mouth, especially since dental disease can result in inflamed and sensitive gums that may bleed during an examination.
