Caption

Dental decay. Close-up of a single broken tooth in the mouth of a 90 year-old woman which has become decayed. The decay is caused by bacteria, such as Staphylococci, infecting the living tissue inside a tooth. This can then spread to infect the surrounding area forming an abscess. Treatment usually involves draining the pus from any abscess and either filling the tooth cavity or extracting the tooth.
