Dental implant. Close-up of the upper jaw of a patient showing the position of an implant (centre right). This is used to support a false tooth (not seen) when the original tooth has died and been removed. Seen here is the base, or post, of the implant. This is surgically embedded into a hole drilled in the jawbone. A metal peg is then screwed into position on the post, which supports a tooth-like crown.
