Artificial insemination (image 4 of 9). Man having an ultrasound scan to check the health of his testes prior to semen donation for artificial insemination. This process is used when a couple cannot conceive naturally. This scan will reveal any problems in his testes. A sample of semen is also tested. If everything is in order, his semen will be injected into the cervix of his partner. When the semen of a husband or life partner is used, the process is known as AIH. There is around a 65% chance of fertilisation over six months of treatment. Photographed at a clinic in Milan, Italy. For a sequence showing stages in the process, see images M802/154-162.
