Muscle anatomy of a pregnant womans torso based on segmented human data. Two muscle types are depicted: skeletal muscle of the arms, legs and torso and the smooth muscle of the intestines, bladder and uterus. The chorion plexus which nourishes the foetus is visible. The foetus lies in the placental sac, its head pushing against the bladder. Although the system of skeletal muscles is in place at birth, it takes several years for mature movement patterns to develop.
