Newborn baby. A mother cradles her newborn baby after a natural home delivery. The baby's father also has his arms around both the mother and the baby, who is wrapped in a white cloth. The gloved hand of a midwife is seen massaging the mother's stomach in order to control blood flow from the uterus. Natural childbirth involves the avoidance of unnecessary medical intervention during the delivery of a baby. The major difference of natural childbirth is the use of relaxation techniques to cope with pain, thereby minimising the use of drugs during labour. Photographed in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
