At centre right are the large cells of the xylem (green), which transports water and mineral nutrients from the roots throughout the plant. At centre left are cells of the phloem (red), which transports carbohydrates and plant hormones around the plant. The xylem and phloem are surrounded by parenchyma cells. Magnification: x35 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
