Cling reflex. Newborn baby uses its tiny hand to "cling on for life". This response is a reflex action in newborn infants. It occurs automatically for about the first four months when any object placed in the infant's palm will be firmly grasped. The cling response is strong enough to support the baby from falling, if it is held up.
