Neonatal reflex test. Doctor testing a newborn baby boy's Galant reflex. This is tested by lightly supporting the baby under the abdomen with a hand, while a fingernail is gently stroked down one side of the baby's spinal column from head to buttock. The baby's trunk should involuntarily curve towards the stimulated side. This reflex should no longer be present by the age of 3 months, and can be absent as soon as the baby is only a month old.
