Neonatal reflex test. Doctor testing a newborn baby boy's grasping reflex. This occurs when a finger or other object is placed in the baby's palm. This triggers an involuntary reflex response where the baby grasps hold of the finger or object. This is thought to be an evolved response to prevent falling. This reflex lessens by the age of 9-10 months.
