Premature baby boy. Nurse's hands and mother's hand with a baby boy that was born premature. It is seen inside an incubator. A baby born prematurely (before 37-42 weeks of gestation) will need constant monitoring in a contained and controlled environment. His immune system and internal organs will still be developing and he will have problems maintaining a moist skin and his body temperature. The incubator allows access for the nurse to care for the baby, while still maintaining the temperature, humidity and oxygen levels. Photographed in the Netherlands.
