Premature baby feeding from a bottle. Electroencephalogram (EEG) wires are attached to electrodes on the baby's head. These record its brain activity. The pattern produced by the EEG traces (not seen) are used to diagnose conditions such as epilepsy and show if the baby is alert, awake or asleep. Premature babies require constant monitoring in a controlled environment.
