Leaf anatomy. Light micrograph of a transverse section through a leaf from the grey mangrove tree (Avicenna marina). The leaves are bright green on top and grey and hairy underneath. The shiny green surface is the cuticle (pink, across top). Below this are open areas of cellulose (blue and white), with vascular tissue (tracheid cells) forming the next layer down. Across bottom are the hairs on the leaf's bottom surface (pink).
