Phototherapy. Newborn baby in an incubator under a phototherapy unit. Phototherapy is used in the treatment of jaundice. Jaundice is yellow discolouration of the skin and eyes caused by the deposition of excess bilirubin (pigment) in skin tissues. The blue light causes a reaction which breaks down the bilirubin into a harmless form which is then excreted in the urine. Photographed on the neonatology ward at the Robert Debre hospital, Paris, France.
Model release available. Property release not required.
