Leaf anatomy. Light micrograph of a transverse section through a leaf from the grey mangrove tree (Avicenna marina). The leaves are bright green on top and grey and hairy underneath. The shiny green surface is the cuticle (white-green, across top). The hairy lower surface is across bottom (blue and red). At centre is the structure of a vascular bundle, which transports water, sugars, nutrients and hormones around the plant. Within the vascular bundle the tissues include lignin (blue-white) and tracheid tissue (green).
