Throat examination. General practice (GP) doctor examining a boy's throat. He is using a tongue depressor to push down the boy's tongue and allow him to see the boy's throat with a viewing instrument in his other hand. This will magnify and illuminate the back of the boy's throat. An inflamed (sore) throat is most often due to a streptococcal bacterial infection. Other possible disorders include inflamed tonsils.
