Paediatric examination. Baby boy crying as a doctor uses a stethoscope to listen to his lungs. A stethoscope is used to listen to sounds within the body. The doctor has placed the stethoscope listening device on the baby's back, over his lungs. The sounds of the baby's breathing are transmitted through the tube to the earpieces in the doctor's ears. This will allow the doctor to detect disorders such as lung infections.
