Aquatic leaves. Leaves of an aquatic plant giving off bubbles of oxygen during photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the production of food and oxygen by plants from water and carbon dioxide using the energy supplied by light. The light is captured by chlorophyll, the green pigment within the plant cells. This energy is used to produce hydrocarbons such as sugar. The oxygen is released as a by-product.
