Ovarian cyst and hydrosalpinx. Laparoscope view inside a woman's abdomen showing a follicular cyst of the ovary, and swollen fallopian tube (hydro- salpinx). At above centre is the rounded enlarged cyst. The uterus can be seen partly obscured at upper right, with a fallopian tube passing above the cyst. The fallopian tube has become inflamed around the cyst, with accumulation of fluid. The cyst itself is fluid-filled, the fluid occurring in an egg-producing follicle. Ovarian cyst may produce no symptoms and is seldom cancerous. But a large cyst can lead to infertility, discomfort, and may require surgical removal.
