Ovarian cyst. Laparoscope (endoscope) view inside a woman's abdomen showing a follicular cyst of the ovary. At centre (white) is the rounded enlarged cyst. Part of the rest of the ovary and fallopian tube can be seen above it. Ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled swelling in the ovary, in this case occurring in an egg-producing follicle. Often there are no symptoms with this disorder, but a large cyst can cause abdominal discomfort and menstrual irregularities. Most ovarian cysts are non-cancerous. Simple thin-walled cysts often go away on their own; a well-developed or thick- walled cyst may require surgical removal.
