Cancer of the uterus. Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan of an axial section through the female pelvis showing uterine cancer. This cancer is leiomyosarcoma, a malignancy affecting the connective tissue in the muscle of the uterus. Here, pelvic bones appear blue; the swollen uterus is at centre; above the uterus is the thin-walled bladder. The cancer appears as a lighter irregular mass (centre right) in the uterus. Leio- myosarcoma is a rare form of uterine cancer. The more common form affects the uterus lining. Treat- ment depends on how early the cancer is detected, and may include surgery, chemo- or radiotherapy.
