A cyst is a fluid-filled sac, typically containing mucus. It is surrounded by connective tissue and normal cortical stroma tissue of the ovary. Ovarian cysts are common and this type may become cancerous. It may cause pain and menstrual irregularities, and may need to be surgically removed. A laparoscope is a steel instrument with optical fibres which allows internal body organs to be viewed.
