Caption

Swollen Fallopian tube. Coloured abdominal X-ray of a woman's reproductive system, with her uterus (yellow) and a swollen and blocked Fallopian tube (oviduct, red, centre right). The tube is blocked by a hydrosalpinx, a fluid-filled swelling of the tube. Surgery may be required to drain and repair the swollen tube, or remove it if it is severely damaged. Infertility may result if both tubes are affected, since the Fallopian tubes carry the reproductive egg cells from the ovaries to the uterus. Injection of a contrast medium has revealed the patient's reproductive system on this X-ray (hysterosalpingogram).
