Uterine tumours. Artwork of two tumours (orange) in the wall (red) of the uterus (blue lining). The two sets of Fallopian tubes and ovaries are seen each side of the uterus. These tumours are uterine fibroids (fibromyomas), benign tumours of muscular and fibrous tissue. They can cause pain, excessive menstrual bleeding and may prevent pregnancy. Surgical removal is sometimes possible, though in extreme cases the whole uterus has to be removed.
