Uterine growth. Coloured ultrasound scans of the uterus of a 60-year-old patient, showing a large uterine fibroma. The scans are taken at a variety of angles to help map the extent of the fibroma. A fibroma is a benign tumour of connective tissue. Surgical removal is required if symptoms develop. Ultrasound scanning uses reflected high-frequency sound waves to image internal body tissues.
