Caption

Uterine fibroid. Frontal hysterosalpingogram X-ray of a woman's uterus (white) showing a fibroid (dark area) growing on the internal wall. A fibroid is a fibrous benign tumour originating from muscular tissue. Most do not require treatment, but some can cause bleeding, pain and other disorders. Large fibroids may need to be surgically removed. A hysterosalpingogram is taken after the introduction of a radio opaque material to the uterus via a catheter (bottom centre) in the vagina.
