Skin patch for use in Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). A double transdermal skin patch, brand name Estragest TTS, manufactured by Ciba-Geigy. This self-adhesive skin patch is impregnated with 10 milligrams of the female hormone oestradiol (a type of oestrogen) and 30 milligrams of Norethis- terone acetate. It releases some 50 micrograms oestradiol and 250 micrograms Norethisterone acetate in 24 hours when in contact with the skin. Oestrogen replacement therapy is typically given to relieve menopausal symptoms in women. These symptoms can include hot flushes, night sweating, and atrophic vaginitis. HRT also helps prevent atherosclerosis and osteoporosis (bone disease).
