Fallopian tube operation, endoscope view. Surgical tools (black and silver) that are being used in an examination and operation on a hydrosalpinx and on adhesions. An ovary (white) is being held between the two tools. At upper right is a fallopian tube swollen with fluid build-up (a condition known as a hydrosalpinx). The ovary and its fallopian tube are normally separate, but here fibrous bands of tissue (adhesions) have grown between them to join them. Blood (dark red, centre right; and light red, on ovary) is due to cutting of the adhesions by the tools. This kind of surgery is carried out if the adhesions or hydrosalpinx interfere with the function of the reproductive organs.
