Male condom. View of an unrolled male condom (sheath). This male contraceptive in the form of a rubber sheath, is unrolled over the erect penis prior to sexual intercourse. The device prevents sperm entering the vagina to cause pregnancy. The condom is also a prophylactic against sexually-transmitted diseases, including HIV, the virus causing AIDS. The use of condoms constitutes one of the practices of "safe sex", that is, sexual activity modified so as to minimise the risk of contracting AIDS.
