Caption

Light from a HeNe laser at 632.8 nanometers is transmitted through a double slit to show the characteristic diffraction pattern. The narrower the slits the more the diffraction pattern spreads out. Double slit diffraction patterns differ from single slit patterns by having the central maximum (central bright spots) being of equal intensity. This is not the case with single slit diffraction.
