Caption

Light from a green solid state laser at 532 nanometers is transmitted through a double slit to show the characteristic diffraction pattern. The narrower the slit the more the diffraction pattern spreads out. If the wavelength of light is moved to a longer wave, the diffraction pattern will also spread out. Double slit diffraction patterns differ from single slit patterns by having the central maximum (central bright spots) being of equal intensity. This is not the case with single slit diffraction.
