Leg veins. Historical illustration of some of the veins (blue) and lymphatic vessels (grey) of the leg. The veins carry deoxygenated blood. Lymphatic vessels recirculate lymph (interstitial tissue fluid) to avoid fluid and protein loss. Lymphatic nodes (one above knee in left diagram) are part of the immune system.
